This interview takes place at the inaugural of the Carl Rogers Institute for Psychotherapy, Training, and Supervision. The client arrives determined to find his own way and achieve rewards appropriate to his abilities. Dadisi confronts Rogers with the distrust he feels towards Rogers. Many years later Dadisi continued to claim, “This interview changed my life.” Comments by Institute director Dr. Norman Chambers and audience interaction follow the interview.
The client, Phillip, is trying to get in touch with his feelings of fear, “I want to get mature.” During the interview Phillip lives out his presenting concern, and experiences how he handles his deep feelings. An audience of C.S.P. members watching the interview later ask pointed questions, perceiving the client wanted something other than what Rogers offered.
This is a thirty-minute interview at the Living Now Workshop with a young client who speaks of his fear of “being a loser” and wanting to take more risks. He seems to experience more trust in himself as the interview proceeds. (Questions from the audience in the final ten minutes have poor sound quality.)
Steve is grappling with relations to himself and others that seem to both connect and alienate him. He moves from what he calls his “intellectualizations” to his deep pain by addressing his masculinity, his power in relationships, his equality ethic, and his aliveness. Recorded at Living Now Workshop.
